mapps

Cycles maps out distances in between temporal and spatial events. Traveling provides an invaluable opportunity to acquire images and creates a link between different geographic locations. While shooting these images the camera is handheld and captures multiple viewpoints to simulate the movement of our eyes and bodies in space. While traveling I shoot hundreds of photos that are compressed into animations that record the distance in between two map locations (A and B) and the temporal/physical space that separates them. The Cycles installation keeps track of viewer interaction and periodically triggers the travel sequences which metaphorically represent the creation of secondary matter.

travel

The Cycles travel images and travel strips are selected and extracted from the thousands of frames that make up the animation sequences. These images are often shot through the window of a car or a train.

At times the glass windows create reflections revealing what is in front, in the middle and behind the eye of the camera creating a "sfera dell'empireo" (an empirical sphere) which collapses a 360 degree perspective withing a two-dimensional image.
