Cycles Elements and Space in Between 2008 has grown out of a collaboration with mixed media installation artist Lou Rizzolo from Western Michigan University. In 2007 Rizzolo invited me to collaborate on a project that involved the production of six images to be printed on one of his Lumia dome inflated sculptures.

Rizzolo's Lumia dome sculptures are comprised of six leaf like panels that are sewn together and inflated with helium. I proposed to print images of the four primary elements on four panels and secondary elements (people, plants and/or other) on the remaining two panels. These new ideas provided the context for the creation of a series of still images and a new software application that would randomize the playback order, the content, the orientation and the opacity of the animation frames to create an ever-changing and layered circular image. This image represents a virtual mix of the four elements and the creation of a symbolic Mandala type image. A sample mock-up of the Mandala software interface can be found here.
